Both Amanda and I have clapped, danced, choreographed, swayed, and performed tinikling all over. From a packed auditorium to grocery store aisles, from Filipino festivals to wal-mart parking lots. We hope to share our experience in a tradition that we regard as a landmark of Filipino folk-dance.

If this all works out right, then we will post ground rules. videos, written-out choreography, and other updates of schedules in the coming weeks.

See you at practice,

I know that the last couple of practices have been quite chill, but there are still quite a few dancers who have not been making enough progress to really show that they will be ready to perform for luau. Next practice as always is mandatory, however I do not want to see any of the dancers on the sidelines or sitting at the tables, especially when the choreography is not memorized nor perfected.

If you sincerely want to get better, then I need you to come to me and to talk about any issues with the dance. Also I need you to use the small time that we have effectively and actively.

If you feel however that you are not up to dancing at the moment, I need to get people more experienced with the sticks, so on your down time please click for your fellow dancers as a courtesy for those who want to practice.

At the end of practice I will talk to each individual about how they feel dancing their part of the dance. I will move you around to other parts if you and I feel it is best.

Thanks

Martin

please don’t mind our mistakes…at least we kept...

please don’t mind our mistakes…at least we kept going

We hope that you can use this as a visual guide. If not, it is understandable considering the multiple mistakes, but use the beat in order to guide how fast you are going to be dancing. If you are doing the fast part especially, then listen so that you can get a better feel of the beat.

Thanks

Amanda and Martin

Please Remind Martin or Amanda when not being able to attend practices

If you are not able to attend practices, then we would like to know where you are. Whether you are sick, have to be somewhere else, at a practice for another dance, or just unable to attend the practice, please practice common courtesy to the choreographers by simply telling us before the meeting/practice or calling/texting us about not being there. By knowing beforehand who will be able to attend, we can better prepare for how we need to run rehearsal.

Also, if you are not able to attend an adequate amount of practices especially without notifying the dance head, your spot may be taken or you may be cut from the dance. We will try not to penalize anyone for simply not being able to go, but we still have to know why. Thanks.

questions? comments? concerns? can’t be there?

See you at practice,
